The Dems know they are in deep shit and will do anything to save their asses. <br />There has been talk of statehood for Puerto Rico before but not like this, so this is very suspect.G.R.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8241445666161004335.post-47807938234724564972010-04-24T19:23:52.902-05:002010-04-24T19:23:52.902-05:00The reason this bill has bipartisan support is bec...The reason this bill has bipartisan support is because they have been convinced this is a non-binding self-determination process. the truth is that this is a clear statehood trap. the local companion legislation in Puerto Rico calls for an election 90 days after statehood wins to elect a congressional delegation to send to Washington and demand they be seated. This is not a non-binding gesture! I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and this will not be a red state. The current Republican Governor was elected because he ran as a statehooder against a very unpopular incumbent during a serious economic collapse. His current approval numbers are in the low 20s. Puerto Rico is a welfare state with no intentions of using English as their official language and no intentions of changing their strict gun control laws.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8241445666161004335.post-5853669909328658312010-04-24T17:42:46.304-05:002010-04-24T17:42:46.304-05:00I'm definitely for PR statehood, if they choos...I'm definitely for PR statehood, if they choose it. They've fought with us in every war since World War I, and are American citizens. As a state, it wouldn't take long to bring PRico up to speed. The only problems I have with it are the economic ones that you brought up. Maybe once the economy is back up to speed we can revisit the issue? This just isn't the right time, and we don't have the national wherewithal at the moment. That being said, once we do, and if PRicans want it, I'm all for it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
