Venting

I really hate those pop-up search boxes in posts and articles that make me have to "x" them out so I can keep reading. I try really hard not to mouse over them so that they won't pop-up, but sometimes...

You and I both. I hate those with a passion. It's like a candidate putting a bumper stick on you car or a sign on your lawn without asking. I'll never go for them. To me, this is just a form of spam. I haven't tried this, but I suppose if your browser supports loading a style sheet, you could load a stylesheet that overrides that mouse over/hover event.

  2. You can disable those, Pat. When one of the search windows opens, you'll notice along the top bar, upper right-hand corner, a icon that looks like a gear, I believe. Click on it for disabling options.

  4. Try using the Firefox browser. Since I've started using firefox I rarely have those pop-ups. It's great.

  5. It's that "in-text" advertising; @Bob - I don't see a way to dismantle it.There's an "x" in that corner and a "?" which tells you how to put the mess on your own site (no, thanks!). I guess I'll just have to be more careful about triggering it!
@TNelson - I always use Firefox, but I don't think it helps on this one! These aren't traditional pop-ups.

    Thanks, all, for the comments!

  6. I hate those! And anything else that moves on my screen without me telling it to.

  7. Pat, I just discovered that my solution only works with one type of the link pop-up boxes. It doesn't work with the 'infolinks' type of box and I couldn't figure out how to eliminate that one. But, it should work for the kind that does show the gear character. If I find out how to disable the other one, I'll let y'all know right away.
