Michael Grady's "Nona Mae and Friends" Available Now!

Way back in the day my sister took me to The Lakecliff Club to hear a band.  We went to listen to her friend Michael Grady.  Let's just say it was a very interesting experience, and lots of good times were had at The Lakecliff!

Shreveport is known for its rich musical history and there are many who can write about it much better than I, but I did love to go to The Lakecliff , The Royal Room, the Rusty Nail, and later, clubs in Shreve Square to hear Michael Grady play;  Grady shared the stage with some of our best local talent and I even saw him with Willie Nelson once at Whiskey River on the Riverfront.

I stumbled across Michael's CD this morning and promptly ordered it.  Dennis Zimmerman, another fabulous local talent, is running a demo studio in Nashville and has produced a CD for Grady.  I had to have it.  I listened to the samples and Michael is ... well, Michael!   The only thing this CD is missing is "Goodnight Irene."

Any of you locals who remember Grady and his entourage will want to add this one to your collection.  Good times!

  4. Is the Royal Room the bar that was in Highland north of the Coke plant? If it is I was there years ago, and a friend of mine got really messed up on a flamable drink I think was called a Jelly Bean.
Also, if it is, was the first time this Iowa farm boy met the first south Louisiana cajun. Really nice guy, but I hardly understood a word he said.

    1. No, the Royal Room was in downtown on Milam. We, (Cedar Fork) shared that venue almost every other week! We were the first to play such covers as Eagles, Pure Prairie League, Dirt Band, America, etc. We also shared time with Grady at the Lakecliff. Those were good times! Michael and I even had almost identical VW busses which made for some interesting incidences!

  5. Anyone know where Michael is? He's seemed to have dropped off the planet. He doesn't respond to emails or calls. Please post a comment if you know anything. Just want to know if he's OK.

  6. I am Grady's cousin from NW Indiana. He visited us summer of 2008. He was having health issues, but seemed energetic and happy. I, too, have not heard from him.(which is not too unusual, we often go years without seeing each other) I would also love to hear how he is doing.

  9. I'm so glad that Michael is still around. We were the very best of friends and I cherish the times he and Mike Coker showed up at my place in Indiana, Colorado, Austin and, yes Shreveport, these are some of my best memories. I love Michael profoundly; and I don't love guys! I'll be back in S'Port sometime soon, hope I can find him. Ted Dunn

  11. Grady is doing very well. He has dramatically cleaned up his act. Has become sober and only smoking one cigarette a day. He has all of us Hoosiers in shock. Still playing here and there. Currently still living in Monroe, LA. Occasional trips to Mexico and Indiana to see old friends. Just love this man.

  12. Grady doing well in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I've been hanging out with him the past 3 weeks. He runs around town on his bicycle, drinks Sol Zero (a Mexican non-alcoholic beer), and occasionally performs at Bad Boys Beach Bar.

  14. Wow, talk about a blast from the past.
I played with Michael back in the 70’s, and definitely have fond memories ( grass skirt and cowboy boots), and the infamous Whiskey River gig with Charlie Day, Sam and Dale Jacobs, and sometimes a harmonica player ( Michael Thomson ).

    I’m the Drummer, Walter Klocko.

I would love to see or talk to Michael, any information would be most appreciated ❤️
