Unfortunately, the red parts aren't so densely populated. A part of the GOP's strategy needs to be how the party creates appeal in the cities and more densely populated states. A part of their problem is that they've become the party of the small-town and the nationsl demographics are shifting to urban areas.
And this, ladies and gentlemen who don't understand why the electoral college is important, is one of the reasons our founding fathers implemented the electoral college system. Yes, one reason it was desgined that way was to give delegates time to go to a centalized place to vote for president on behalf of their state. But it was also, and wisely, designed to prevent more populated and powerful states from having complete contol of the election.
