I worked for a board of directors for some years, and one of the first things I did was to refuse to respond or acknowledge "anonymous" claims. I patiently explained that without full details, there was nothing to respond to - all I could do would be to quote policy. That nipped a pre-existing unhealthy culture of internal politics real fast, and I never had to worry about it at all.
