Color of Change Tries to Shut Down Glenn Beck

I find this story from Red State rather disturbing. Obama's Green Jobs Czar Van Jones, who founded the group Color of Change, has hired a Hollywood PR group to pressure Glenn Beck's advertisers to stop advertising with Beck's cable program.

Michelle Oddis has a post on this at Human Events; she says:

On July 28th, Beck made a comment on the Fox & Friends morning show about Obama’s reaction to the arrest of Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. During the discussion of “Professor-Gate,” Beck connected the President’s past association with Rev. Jeremiah Wright to Obama’s comment that Cambridge police officer, Sgt. James Crowley, acted stupidly. Though Beck acknowledged most of the Obama administration is in fact white, he concluded that the President’s world experience made him a "racist."

Now Color of Change has pressured SC Johnson, Progressive Insurance, and Geico to boycott Beck's program. Red State has the contact numbers for these folks if you'd like to send them your two cents. Oddis also includes Proctor and Gamble in her list as well as Nexis Lexis.

Color of Change has this statement on their front page:

Fox's Glenn Beck recently said President Obama is "a racist" and has a "deep-seated hatred for white people." Beck is on a campaign to convince the American public that President Obama's agenda is about serving the needs of Black communities at White people's expense. It's repulsive, divisive and shouldn't be on the air.

Join us in calling on Beck's advertisers to stop sponsoring his show.

Color of Change is a non-profit organization. Were government dollars used to organize this boycott? And if they succeed in shutting down Beck, where will it end?

Walton and Johnson (I know) were talking this morning about some of the advertisers that have already pulled out from his show. Total hypocrisy. Kanye can call W a racist but GB can't call out Obama.

Well, Beck has an uncanny ability to call things right. When Obama made the "typical white person" comment about his grandmother, the press didn't blink, flinch, nothing. Wonder what reaction the term "Typical Black person" coming from John McCain's mouth would have engendered from the press? Then there is the Prof. Gates incident. Methinks Mr. Obama was listening quite intently to his mentors and to Rev. Wright during his time in Chi-town

um, what don't you like about freedom of speech and its intersection with capitalism? It's called speaking with your wallet.

Glenn said what he said, he's free to do so - even if he does it on the public's airwaves (another socialist plot, I know, but someone has to own the spectrum, might as well be the People). Some people objected. They are free to do that. They decided that rather than just complain amongst friends that they'd call his sponsors (the people who pay his bills, after all) and complain a little.

Guess what they found out, Glenn's sponsors don't like getting calls about where they put their money - their interest is in selling us things we may or may not need. Controversy, you see, gets in the way of selling (unless of course you're just in the business of selling controversy a la Beck). They stopped paying for air on his show.

That's all that's happened. Glenn can go find him some new sponsors or he can take a pay cut. Either way, capitalism and free speech are alive and well.

This is an old trick, typically used by the Right. Not so fun when the game is turned, eh?

I agree about the wallet, but the silence on Obama's overt racism leaves me cold. And anyone who doesn't know they are caving in, well, belive what you want. Speaking of the shoe on the other foot, how about them right wing protesters?

Once again I see organizations trying to stop people from expressing there opinion in the media. If all sides are not heard we might as well be a socialist state.
Obama has a pretty good start. Our rights as Americans are being taken away by every means possible by those who want to keep us in the dark and run there own agenda. They must be scared of his comments if they are going to this extreme. I will listen to Beck even more now. Your pushing us the believe that yes the Obama administration has an agenda. They don't what the truth out there.
