Jimmy Buffett: It's All George Bush's Fault!

Oh for crying out loud, not Jimmy Buffett, too.  Add him to my list of celebrities who have lowered my opinion of them by opening their mouths and uttering moonbat nonsense.

The BP oil spill is all George Bush's fault.

Buffett, a supporter of President Barack Obama, said the roots of the spill lie with the administration of former President George Bush, which was often criticized for being too cozy with the petroleum industry.
"To me it was more about eight years of bad policy before (Obama) got there that let this happen. It was Dracula running the blood bank in terms of oil and leases," he said. "I think that has more to do with it than how the president reacted to it."

I don't care if he wants to support Barack Obama.  We're a country of diverse political opinions and that's fine.  But to conclude that George Bush is at fault here is crazy.

Obama's own Minerals Management Service has been allowing drilling without permits since 2009.  Got that date?  2009.

Yes, the MMS was probably a sham even during George Bush's tenure, but Obama's been president now for over two years.  That he never cleaned up MMS until a disaster fell in his lap is not George Bush's fault.

Sorry, Jimmy Buffett.

And if Buffett wants to get into the blame game, well, he's just being silly to overlook Obama's culpability here.  Let's review, Mr. Buffett:

Via Gateway Pundit:

** Weeks after the explosion the feds only accepted assistance from 5 of 28 countries.
** It took the Obama Administration 53 days to accept help from the Dutch and British.
** It took them 58 days to mobilize the US military to the Gulf.
** The feds shut down crude-sucking barges due to fire extinguisher concerns.
** The Obama Administration ignore oil boom manufacturers that have miles of product stockpiled in their warehouses.
** They only have moved 31 of 2,000 oil skimmers to the disaster area off of Florida.
** Florida hired an additional 5 skimmer boats to operate off its coast due to federal inaction.
** There are no skimmer boats off the coast of Mississippi.
** The massive A-Boat skimmer won’t be allowed to join the cleanup effort until the Coast Guard and the EPA figure out whether it meets their standards.
** The feds shut down sand berm dredging off the Louisiana coast.
** The Obama Administration lied about the oil spill cleanup efforts to Louisiana officials.

Now shut up and sing.  Raise some money or something.

Cripes.....where can I get my get out of reponsibility free card?

I mean it's like some of these yammering heads every time the Dow-Jones goes up +100 or more in one day: 'See!? See!? This is proof that the {stimulus/0bamacare/insert shoddy 0bama Policy propoal here --> ____ is working!!!.

Then....when the dow-Jones drops 200+ points the following day, these same people will say What did you expect after Bush wrecked the economy for 8 years?.

They can't have it both ways, but apparently didn't get the memo...

Pat, you hit the nail on the head. Ditto, ditto, ditto ... I agree with all you said and linked. Thanks for putting it into words for me.

He can't bring himself to lay any blame at someone he supports so it must by default go to Bush. Me thinks he's been out in the sun too long.

Sigh. As a native Floridian and a Buffett follower for years and years, I'm afraid his records and cds may find themselves in my garage sale next weekend.

Other than denying the possibility that Buffett was correct in his analysis of the "Root" cause of the spill results from Bush era decisions, you and most of the commentors just use questionable claims of Obama's response -- without citing one source.

I interestingly cut and pasted the following lines "The feds shut down crude-sucking barges due to fire extinguisher concerns.** The Obama Administration ignore oil boom manufacturers that have miles of product stockpiled in their warehouses." from your article into Google and got hits on 61 blogs dittoing your claims and was unable to find one with any citation.

At least you people are consistent with your incriminations if maybe not accurate.

Sooooo......more than one blog asserting that 0bama screwed the pooch in the Gulf cleanup means that it's a vicious, inaccurate smear orchestrated by the nefarious vast right wing consiparcy, Anonymous?

I'm a pretty lazy individual, but even I was able to cite ABC news and local media articles from New Orleans and Mobile on how dredging for artificial barriers was being stopped by the Coast Guard or EPA. Or how about the Governor of Maine (hardly anybody's idea of a foaming-at-the-mouth right winger) vouching for the Auburn, ME-based packaging company that was able to manufacture some 80,000 feet of containment boom?

Or are you going to move the goalposts around in the middle of the game and decide that they are no longer trustworthy media outlets? Or the MMS praising BP- and specifically the Deepwater Horizon operation in its own press releases from 2009- the era in which we were supposed to re-set our calendars to honor the new era of hope and change the community organizer in chief was going to usher in?

But I guess flinging as much pooh as you can in the hopes that something will stick is a whole lot easier than defending this Administration when it comes to any number of things- the Deepwater Horizon spill being at the top of the list.

Don't you have something to go suck up with a straw?

I can't remember where I heard this or who said it, but someone said it, and I will paraphrase what was said, "this administration can come up with a lot of reasons why something won't work but can't come up with something that can."
That pretty much sums it up.

GR,
The quote might be correct, but the concept is wrong. It is clear that the big O is trying as hard as possible to destroy the US. It that is not his agenda, then is incompetence is beyond concept and likely represents malfesaence.

As to Bush working with the oil companies, so what. Oil companies are legitimate businesses and we need to assure that they survive, make profits and have a few rules and regulations as possible. Just like we should for every American business. They are the people that employ us, pay the taxes, provide for our pension plans, etc. When did we go to war with business?

I want as many people as possible to make grossly high bonuses. I want people to be able to get a job. I want business in every town in Louisiana. We need to help our businesses and reap the profits. We need to fire public employees (except teachers). We need to reduce the size of government. We need fewer taxes and less expenditures and less debt. We need fewer agencies (eliminate DEA, FDA, ATF, and on and on).

My heart is sad, Jimmy is an Obamamaniac. I've been a parrothead for years and while I will still listen to and sing the songs, I guess I'll have to put Jimmy in the same catagory as all those actors and politicians whose IQ's are lower than their shoe sizes.

Shame on you Jimmy, guess I'll just go down to the beach, open a bottle of DOS XX, role one and watch the sun set until Obama f&**&&k's it up too.

I have known for years that Jimmy is a flaming liberal but have ignored it because I am such a fan of his music, and for the most part,he keeps his crap to himself which I have respected. However, the older he gets, the more Liberal crap he spews, and the older I get,the harder it is to ignore.I really hate to add him to my boycott list, but he is getting close.

For me,it get's embarrasing to suport a musican who is this dumb to STILL be blaming everything on Bush and turn a blind eye on what Obama has done in 2 years.I guess the storm surge that cancelled the first show was Bush's fault as well.I hear maybe bad weather for Sunday too,THAT DAMN BUSH AGAIN!!!!!

I always thought that JB was a down to earth kind of guy. But as the son of a sailor he is obviously off to see the lizard.

When Jimmy Buffet sings a horrible rendition of a classic Beatles song, does he blame the Fab Four? When Jimmy gets on a tour bus - does he wish it would run on cow dung? When Jimmy and his crew get on a jet and fly to Paris, France, to do some entertainen', does he ask if the fuel came from friends of Bush? When Jimmy gets in his studio and turns on his amps and recorders and electric guitars does he know where that energy came from?
Coal, Oil, Gas, Three Mile Island?

It is apparent that there are fruitcakes in floridays these days. You make a stupid statement your going to find yourself in some hot water. If he would like - now is the time to set up that beach house on the moon. Well maybe he should come down to earth and get off his high cumberland jubilee and get serious changes in latitudes and attitudes.

I am waiting for Jimmy's rendition of the BP disaster in a remake of "When the Volcano Blows"
Now I don't know
I don't know
I don't know where I'm a gonna go
When the oil rig blows

Tar balls under my feet
Tidal waves out on the sea
Now my girl quickly say to me
Mon you better watch your feet

No time to count what I'm worth
'Cause I just left the planet earth
Where I go I hope there's rum
Not to worry mon soon come

Chorus:
One more now I don't know
(ah he don't know)
I don't know (he don't know, mon)
I don't know where I'm a gonna go
When the oil rig she blow

To have the mascot of the elephant, I'd think republicans would have a little better memory.
I remember hearing conservative pundits blame Clinton deep into Bush's second term. Anything that came up, I started waiting to see how long it would take for a pundit to blame Clinton. I was rarely disappointed. It was almost inevitable that somehow Clinton would be blamed.
I think there is more maturity on kindergarten playgrounds than there is in politics today.
