"Ready or Not" Jackson Browne is No Longer "A Soldier of Plenty" for Obama

Jackson Browne is still going to "Take it Easy" on Obama this fall. but "These Days"  he is "Walking Slow" on the fundraising and thinks there are "Lives in the Balance" with regard to Obama's nuclear policy.  He's letting Obama know, "My Problem is You" in an interview with Sharon Waxman recently.

Via Politico:
“Look, Obama told me in a personal conversation that he wasn’t up for any new [nuclear] plants. Obviously, he changed his mind at some point. But what a surprise that one of his main supporters is the energy company, Exelon -- which has nuclear plants -- and that he would suddenly change his policy,” Browne said. “I don’t know what we would expect. He’s just as a beholden to the people who put him in office as any of the Republicans would be. But what’s a mystery to me is how he installed pretty much the exact same infrastructure in his administration that deals with finances as the administration that we thought we voted out. That’s really a shocker.”

Apparently, Jackson Browne and Barack Obama are "Miles Away" when it comes to common ground on nukes.

Of course, "For a Rocker" like Jackson Browne to turn against Obama's policies is just another sign of the defections that have been coming Obama's way the past couple of weeks.  "Anything Can Happen" in the fall but when Obama starts alienating even his own base, well, you just never know.  "Before the Deluge" of more defections surely to come his way, Obama might well be "Running on Empty" by November and might find himself with "Nothing But Time" to perhaps work on another memoir.

While Obama could "Hold Out" and still get re-elected, he won't be doing it with Jackson Browne's help.

The Music in Me

So much of who I am is wrapped up in music. It is a wonder that I never learned to play anything but I have a perfectly good piano sitting here and who knows. Maybe.

My sister saw to it that I was introduced to the Eagles and to Jackson Browne (among others) at an early age; she loaned her albums to me (don't you MISS those?! I miss those cracks and pops that you don't get in CDs.) and I played them over and over. And over. And then she introduced me to musicians. Shreveport is known for producing great musicians. And she introduced me to the folks who recorded the musicians. She was the overseer of my musical education and to her I am forever indebted for that.

I've posted on here before of my total adoration and love for Jackson Browne (well, his music anyway; not sure we'd get along in real life.) My iPod is a perfect blend of Jackson Browne, Eagles, Buffett, Stones, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and others. I find such solace in music that I can NOT find anywhere else. But that's another post for another day. Just know when you find me plugged into my iPod, you should let me be...I need to be there!

Steve and I went to Nicky's for Mexican food tonight, then took a swing by his place to check out his storm damage (one Bradford Pear). My photo is of Steve's dog and her fallen Bradford Pear. When we got back here there was a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert on HD which quickly sucked me in. I love those big-haired guitar players!! Listening to that concert reminded me of my old Skynyrd "Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Album" which has the most beautiful unreleased version of Freebird. I think Freebird is one of those songs in danger (or already there) of being played out, but this version is so beautiful to me and I think it's because of the piano. God, I love that piano.

At the risk of sounding like my parents, I'm not sure I "get" lots of music today. Some semi-contemporary stuff I like. But hip-hop and rap - not at all. Not AT ALL. It's filled with the same droning bass line and filled with hate. Awful. Give me the big hair bands, the girl bands, the originals, the folks that knew how to write music and perform it. They had talent. Ah well, I don't want to go there, even. Have a listen at Freebird from 1977. Chill.

I Didn't Forget You Jackson!

As long as we're talking about great musicians, I have to put my man Jackson Browne out there. I was actually getting into that guitar player discussion, which I'm going to get back to, but then I thought "How can we overlook the keyboard players?!" Jackson Browne makes me cry every time I listen to him because I can't play the piano. Not that I could have ever learned to play like that -- I think it's a gift when you have the talent Jackson does. That's always been one of my real sticking points with great musicians -- I like the "real" ones - those that write their own stuff and then perform it. I mean, Jackson has written some really great music AND he can play one hell of a piano, AND the guitar AND tell a funny story; he's the whole package.

I've seen Jackson perform six or seven times. I saw him a few times in Dallas and then several times here in Shreveport. Two Shreveport concerts stand out; one was at Municipal auditorium and was so small and intimate that I remember walking up to the stage, putting my elbows on it and leaning on them, right at the base of his piano. I could have touched his jeans. The other time was at The Strand and was a bit bigger; I was even able to get his autograph on a great 8 x 10 picture I had of him that my friend Mary Beth had taken at a Dallas concert years before. We had great seats though and Jackson talked to us all a lot, telling stories about his songs. What was so great was that it was back in the days of Napster, before it became legit, and someone had recorded the whole concert and put it on there. So I have the Shreveport concert burned on two cds. Love it. I think I can hear myself whooping a time or two.

I love musicians. Some musicians are just entertainers, doing covers of other people's stuff. Jackson and Eric = real deal. And just LOOK at Jackson. I could hurt him. Seriously.
