I've Paid My Debt to the Curmudgeon

I've made good on my bet with the Curmudgeon and gone one better.

If you recall, we made our annual bet on the LSU-Bama game and LSU did not manage to pull a win out of the Mad Hatter's Hat.  Bama steam rolled the Tigers.

Our bet was for $100 toward the Wounded Warrior Project.

In the "one better" tradition, (last time the bet was for a six pack of Sam Adams and the Curmudgeon went "one better" and paid up $100 to WWP), I've signed up for a monthly donation of $19, which comes to $228 a year.   That's about two six packs of Sam Adams a month; I think I can spare that (and so can my waistline).

Loose Thoughts

I've just got some quick links this afternoon.  Too much going on in real life right now: the new semester started and I'm working on getting my new kids settled and accustomed to the routine of M205.  This takes lots of planning, even after 16 years.  On top of that, we lost a friend to cancer this week (only 46!) and that's been sad.  The debacle in New Orleans didn't help last night, either.

For New Hampshire results, stay with Legal Insurrection tonight.  I'm not too interested in NH for some reason.  Any state that rates Jon Huntsman that high has got to have issues.  Not to alienate my NH friends, but..., well, maybe it's just everything else going on.  I just can't drum up the enthusiasm.  Might just be the crop of candidates in general.  Who knows.

Didn't Christopher get whacked in the sixth season of The Sopranos?

Erick Erickson still has hope for Rick Perry.  As do I, but it looks grim.  Like LSU in the third quarter last night.

Pundette's "disordered thoughts" are so totally not disordered.

Why wasn't Johnny Depp on the WH visitor's log?

I'm going to curl up with a book and nurse my wounds.  Behave yourselves.

Let The Trash Talk Begin!

LSU will play Alabama for the BCS championship on January 9.

My friend Carol over at Political Clown Parade has an extensive summation of the situation and the controversy around the matching.  Seems some folks are upset that it's an all SEC deal.

Carol is dubbing this game "Slobberknocker Redux" and I think that's probably apt.

She is a H - U - G - E Alabama fan and, well, you know how I feel about LSU.

We are reprising our bet from last year; originally the bet was a case of Sam Adams, but when LSU beat 'Bama, and I told Carol instead of shipping beer to Shreveport just donate to her favorite charity, Carol ponied up $100 to the Wounded Warrior Project.

So, when the Honey Badger has his way with Big Al and Bama is left wondering what happened to them, Carol will once again fork over $100 to the Wounded Warrior Project!  (And if, heaven forbid, LSU loses, I'll do the same.)

Let the trash talk begin!

Update:  Grandpa John is into Chick Fights.

LSU, Alabama, Crawfish Cornbread and Books

The FMJRA will be delayed until Sunday; it's all about LSU v. Alabama around here today.

I did make the time to run down to Barnes & Noble today and meet William and Michael Henry, the new writers I've been telling you about.  What a nice couple of fellows!  The books are great; as I said before, J. Michael Kenny told me about them last summer.  Michael Henry was a longtime prosecutor in Natchitoches before he turned to writing.  His son, William, joined in and now they co-author these wonderful stories centering around Willie Mitchell Banks and his son Jake.  The first book was set in small town Mississippi but the last one was in New Orleans.  They all have that wonderful southern flavor as well as some pretty dastardly bad guys.  Michael promises me that book five will return to Mississippi and many of the characters we've grown to love will return.

I picked up the fourth book and had it signed before heading home to get ready for the big game.

I've got two batches of Crawfish Cornbread in the old Chambers range right now and then we're heading out to watch the football game with friends.

Of course I have set the DVR to record Newt and Cain tonight.  Professor Jacobson has a live blog thing going on over at his place tonight.  I'll check in periodically via mobile over there.  I'm a geek.

Time to pull the Crawfish Cornbread of out of the oven, pack it up and head out for the game.   Geaux Tigers!

Missing Carol

Awwww I sure miss my friend Carol from No Sheeples Here.  It's time for the LSU/Bama game!  (Graphic courtesy of Carol, last year.)

Carol, you there?  (Carol retired from blogging earlier this year.)  We occasionally bet on the LSU/Bama game with proceeds going to charity.

What to do?  Should I watch LSU (1) v Alabama (2) this Saturday night, or the Herman Cain v. Newt debate?

Thank goodness for the DVR!

Eric Holder's DOJ Files Suit Against Alabama

Eric Holder's DOJ and the Obama administration have filed suit on yet another state for their attempt to control illegal immigration in absence of the feds attempt to do so.

This time it's Alabama.

"Today's action makes clear that setting immigration policy and enforcing immigration laws is a national responsibility that cannot be addressed through a patchwork of state immigration laws," said Attorney General Eric Holder.  "The department is committed to evaluating each state immigration law and making decisions based on the facts and the law. To the extent we find state laws that interfere with the federal government's enforcement of immigration law, we are prepared to bring suit, as we did in Arizona."
I'm trying to find an example of "the federal government's enforcement of immigration law."  I'll let you know if I find one.

LSU v. Bama: We're On!

Carol has challenged me to a bet.  Does she know how expensive Sam Adams really is?!

In Which I Post The Ag Commissioner Ad and Properly Hat Tip Stacy McCain

I didn't blog much this weekend; I'm just digging in mentally and getting through this last week and a half of school.

I have been reading my blog buddies though, and I saw Stacy post this ad, which is now everywhere:

It caught my eye when Stacy posted it because I'm not ALL THAT far from Alabama and stuff like that interests me.  So I made mental note of it.  Then what do you know, there it is much later on Hot Air by AllahPundit without so much as a hat tip.  There's even a Memeorandum thread on it.  I was reminded of Stacy's oft repeated refrain, "Allah hates me."

Stacy updated his post as others linked to the ad, or also posted the video, and he noted Allah's lack of hat tip.

The reason I even mention it is because Stacy said...

Although I don’t do the atavistic blood-vengeance enemies-list thing — it’s too much hassle to keep track of all the people who’ve screwed me over – I must occasionally point out how I get screwed over, just so that my peers in the Chopped-Liver-Sphere know that they’re not alone.

Solidarity is very important in the Legion of the Doomed. Otherwise, we might become even more demoralized than we already are.

...which I appreciated because, well, everyone gets screwed out of hat tips.  I've posted breaking or novel stuff before and, following Rule 1 of How to Get a Million Hits on Your Blog, will mail it out, then get skunked.  It sucks, but what are you going to do?  You can't waste time being mad.

Anyway, it's a cool ad for Ag Commissioner!  ;)

On another note, we finished watching The Pacific last night.  The series  started out sort of rocky but I tried to keep the faith that it would pick up and redeem itself in the end.  It did.  Loved it.  What heroes those young men of that generation were.  Good Lord.  Incredible stuff.

I'm off to work.  Have a happy Monday and remember to hat tip your blog friends when you use their stuff.
