Estate Sale Saturday
I haven't been hitting the estate sales like I was this summer because of work, but today I got lucky and found some treasures! With apologies to those who dislike "antique blogs," I'm pretty excited about my finds today!
I've become a sort of accidental collector of drip coffee pots. Steve and I saw one at King's Ransom, a local antique mall, a few years ago. We immediately got all nostalgic for the great coffee those things make, complete with the little grounds in the bottom of your coffee cup at the end of each cup. For Christmas that year I went back to the store and paid something like $25 for an old WearEver drip coffee pot. And we use it rather often! Since then I've collected a couple more, but this one was too cute to pass up. It's a 2-cup pot:
Perfect for those days when you don't want a full pot!
I also snagged this gorgeous Pyrex mixing bowl in a delicious pale turquoise:
You would not believe the great price I got on that. Old Pyrex is crazy collectible these days.
At the next sale I picked up this funky mesh eyeglasses case:
And I picked up this lovely red damask tablecloth; perfect for my Christmas table. Again, great price:
But, my favorite find was this:
It's nearly the width of my china cabinet. It's a black and white panoramic picture of what I'm guessing might be a debutante soiree. I thought at first it might be a wedding party but there's no obvious bride and it would be a huge-assed wedding party.
Here's a detail:
I love looking at the dresses and the expressions on their faces. The hairstyles! I asked the seller if she knew who the people are and she told me that she was told her great-grandmother was in there, but she had no idea which lady she was and there was no one left to ask.
My grand total today in expenditures was about $40.00. Not bad.

Friday's Found Treasures
I made my weekly Friday estate sale trek today, but it was slim pickins'. There were three estate sales today and this was all I got. But, I'm pleased with my mini-haul.
Those little mugs have handles on them, but they're to the back so you can see the imprints. They're each 2-1/4 inches tall and are cute as can be with their little beer logos. I also got this small "Service Testament" which was printed in 1941. The serviceman that owned it wrote his name in it and dated it July 1942. It's cool to think it might have gone with him into war or that he carried it through his service. I know by other items at the sale that he was retired Air Force.
I stopped at a flea market but that was a bust. I poked through an antique mall too, but didn't see anything I just had to have.
So. My haul was small today, but worthwhile. Total expenditure? $5.00.
Onward to the weekend!

Friday's Found Treasures
It's Friday and it's summer, so I hit a few estate sales and a couple of garage sales this morning. Treasure hunting! This is what I came home with:
At my first stop I picked up a large, heart shaped Belleek dish (like the one pictured left) stillin the box. It's the gold stamp (1981-1992) and it was still in the box. I paid more than I wanted to ($20) but I can never leave Belleek behind.
At my next stop I got these cute turkey salt and pepper shakers:
I thought they were cute and I'll use them on Thanksgiving. I paid $3 for them.
Then I got this green bowl in the Cherry Blossom pattern. I paid $2 for it because there is a small chip on the rim. A true collector would probably have left it, but I liked it and for $2, well..
It's the larger, 8-1/2 size. It looks pretty in my china cabinet and that little chip means I won't be afraid to use it!
At my next stop I picked up this oval serving dish in Hocking's Miss America pattern:
I paid a hefty $18 for that one, but it's flawless and I love the pink.
My find of the day was these three goblets from Central Glass Works:

The pattern is 1426-1 and has floral etching on the bowl. They're a gorgeous pink and flawless. There were only three of them and I paid $5 each for them! Central Glass works was in production from 1895 to 1939 so these are pretty old. I love, love, love them!
Good day treasure hunting! More expensive than usual, but I'm pleased.
