Westboro Baptist Church to Protest Tomlinson Funeral UPDATED 5x and BUMPED

I'm helping blanket the local blogosphere with the unfortunate news that the vile Westboro Baptist Church has plans to picket Spc. Joshua Tomlinson's funeral in Minden this Saturday.  Via My Bossier, here is their flyer (PDF) for the protest which says:

GOD HATES AMERICA & IS KILLING OUR TROOPS IN HIS WRATH.

Military funerals have become pagan orgies of idolatrous blasphemy, where they pray to the dunghill gods of Sodom & play taps to a fallen fool.

This message to be preached in respectful, lawful proximity to the memorial of Spc. Joshua A. Tomlinson Sat., May 29, at 1:15 p.m. First Baptist Minden
301 Pennsylvania Ave., Minden, LA

Spc. Tomlinson gave his life for the Constitutional right of WBC to warn America. To deny us our First Amendment rights is to declare to the world that Spc. Tomlinson died in vain, and that America is a nation of sodomite hypocrites.

“Except the Lord build the house, They labor in vain that build it; Except the Lord keep the city, The watchman waketh but in vain.” Psa. 127:1.

The Lord no longer builds the American house; nor does the Lord watch over and protect America. These soldiers are dying for the homosexual and other sins of America. God is now America’s enemy, and God Himself is fighting against America.

THANK GOD FOR IEDs.

Over at Andy's place there is talk of the Patriot Guard Riders showing up to help shield the family from these disgusting protesters. There is an active chapter of the group here in Louisiana, so let's hope they can assist.

Spc. Tomlinson, you will remember, was 24 years old and was killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan along with four others.

I think it would be awesome if everyone in the area could attend the memorial, lining the route with flags and support.  Meanwhile, I'm doing some fishing on the protest to see what is developing.

UpdateKTBS has a blurb that says Minden law enforcement is on the case.  I'm hearing that the Patriot Guard will be there but so far no real confirmation.  Stay tuned.

Update 2:  The Patriot Guard Riders site has been down for a while; they are aware of the problem.  From their Facebook page:

From the Board of Directors, we have been working on the website since it went down and we believe this is a result of outside action. We are putting all the resources we have available on the problem.

We will have the website up ASAP. We appreciate your patience and we are communicating with the Regional and State Captains regarding missions. Unfortunately, at this time we do not have estimated time of resolution.

Please note the emails servers are still in operations at this time. For those of you that are wishing to join the PGR, please be patient we will be back online ASAP! Thanks for everyone’s concern and support! The Mission WILL go on!

Stay tuned.

Update 3:  Just a clarification that the Patriot Guard is not a counter-protest group, but attempts to honor the fallen soldier.  Didn't want there to be a misunderstanding there.  Spc. Tomlinson deserves to be buried with honor and, as G.R. and others stated in the comments at My Bossier, nothing should be done at all to bring shame or spectacle to this young man's funeral.   I think that locals standing in attendance with flags is a fine way to honor his life and service but no attempt should be made to confront the Westboro group.

Update 4:   A commenter at My Bossier leaves this:

On Sunday the Patriot Guard escorted the body of Sgt. Tomlinson back home. My son (10 years old) and I had the unexpected privilege to ride beside the group for 17 miles on our way home from Shreveport. To give you an idea of how many riders were in the procession, I got on I-20 at MP21 and when I exited at MP 38 I could barely make out the lights of the police car in front and could not see the end behind me. I was moved to tears to see the support and respect these riders had for Sgt. Tomlinson and my son rode in silent awe. My thoughts and prayers are with the Tomlinson family. Minden is a big Baptist town and we protect our own. Strangers stirring up trouble will not be tolerated.
I'm glad the Guard is involved at it must be a solace to Spc. Tomlinson's family.  Now let's just hope that the service is as peaceful and dignified as he deserves.  I've heard from a lot of folks who plan on attending to honor him.  Line the streets with flags!

Update 5:  John Colter of the Patriot Guard makes contact and tells me they have been asked by the family and WILL be at the funeral for Spc. Tomlinson.  He writes:

Please let your readers know that all are welcome to stand with us as long as they stand with respect.  Under no circumstances will we engage in, or condone, physical violence against any protestor(s) that may show up.  As another reader commented, it only gives them free publicity.   Our methods are to ignore them and shield the family from them.    The media and all the worried whispers and gossip has already helped them as it has drawn some of the attention away from the hero we are honoring.  IGNORE THEM.

He speaks to the wise; ignore them.  Do not engage the protest group.  The Red River Tea Party will be in attendance, helping to line the streets.  Also, check the comments for the remarks from the church - they have a spanking wonderful idea!   Take part in it!

These people are despicable. They have shown up in the Omaha area a few times. (Lucky us - we are close to Topeka, KS where they are headquartered). Honor Guard folks showed up in droves both times and I bet they will make it to this funeral too. The family will be in my prayers.

At one of the other funerals where the WBC picketed, some students counter protested by holding up white sheets to shield the family from the picketers. What an awesome, peaceful way to take the wind out of their sails. It would be amazing to see that become a trend...

Thanks for getting the word around, Pat. We're going, and your "former student" and his biker/Soldier buddies are making plans to take the trip.

I hope thousands show up to support this family.

Thanks for getting the word out Pat. Corndog shall follow suit.IN what sane world are these people protesting in "lawful respectful proximity"?

There are others that are wanting to do things to help this family out during this time. Thankfully not all people believe in what this horrible and despicable church believe. God Bless our Soldiers!

I dare these people to show up in my hometown! I just don't see how you can protest a funeral of someone who gave their life so you could walk around and enjoy freedom. I know several people who were good friends with the young soldier being put to rest. They are not happy!

Has anything been setup as far as a group of people lining the streets with flags? or sheilding with sheets etc? We all need to ban together and support our Hero and his family!

To engage protesters is to validate them. It lets them know you saw their message and have a response. They should just be ignored. He died in a horrible war brought about by religion. And now his funeral will be marred by religious protesting.

Greetings! I am both a fellow blogger and a PGR member (albeit on the West Coast). While the website is currently down email is still functional. As I understand, PGR will (upon confirmation of the Tomlinson's family wishes) plan a mission. Without the families invitation, PGR typically would not attend.

As you noted, PGR attends these reverent events to celebrate the bravery and sacrifice shown by our fallen heroes. Our mission is in support of that memory, and for the comfort of their families. Our mission is not specifically to counter villains, cowards and liars like WBC; however we will always serve honorably when and if we are called to do so.

On a personal note, our prayers to SPC Tomlinson's family. And my personal wishes to WBC members - may you rot eternally in Hell.

Thanks for the information. At the My Bossier blog, a comment was left that the Guard escorted the body back to Minden. I'm sure they're involved now and what a nice thing for the family!

My greatest admiration goes out for what you guys do.

In response to the Westboro protest group, First Baptist Church Minden is providing a way for you to positively and to peacefully express your support. So for every minute that the protestors are on site, we are asking you to pledge a per minute monetary amount. ALL the proceeds will be given directly to the widow of a TRUE HERO, SPC. JOSHUA TOMLINSON. So the longer they choose to stay and protest, the more it will benefit SPC. JOSHUA TOMLINSON’S family.

If you would like to help, you can print and fill out this card and bring it by the church office, email it to fbcminden@firstminden.org or mail it to the church office at:

Some of us Army Wives of currently deployed soldiers are trying to get a group as well to go stand and POSITIVELY support the sacrifices our troops and their families make.

I received three emails from three different Tea Party groups which will be in attendance. It's encouraging that so many are willing to take a stand.

ps-Fred Phelps can suck it.

First Baptist Minden has a good suggestion. I'll get the word out as well.

We will be there to honor this brave man who gave his life to give us the freedom to live ours. He is one of many, and it's my honor to stand in front of these heathens that are there to disrespect him for what he has done so they can have their rights they so absurdly spew about (freedom of speech, religion). All the brave servicemen and women, in any field, should be honored for what they do for the citizens of this country. Thank you for posting this so we have updates to go by.

North Texas Tea Party (North Dallas suburbs) will be there with a big banner signed by some of our members.

Spc. Tomlinson gave his life so these worthless pieces of crap can go around all over the country, they were in Charleston, SC (where I am currently stationed with a good friend, who happens to be from Minden) not too long ago. They had better be happy that we were under direct orders not to go anywhere near them or we would have made sure that they wouldn't ever do this again.

I have the final update on SPC Joshus Tomlinson's memorial - along with a video - posted. Thousands attended along the route. A grand memorial for a true hero.

It went well. PGR attended I understand, and Westboro Baptist was a no-show. Thank God.

With their "tax and spend" rhetoric the gods have effectively used the Republicans to transfer responsibility for the $14 trillion national debt to the Democrats.
Ronald Reagan spent the communist block into submission with defense buildup, and in the process increased the debt from $1 trillion in 1980 to $6 trillion when he left office.
W charged both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars to the national debt, honest numbers to come.
Recall Clinton ran a surpuls at the end of his Administration. Fueled by low petrolium prices, understand how the god's other tools were used to create this "revelry cycle", one which assures people have little motivation to pursue the path and repairing their relationship with the gods.
As the gods used W to initiate the recession with deliberate legislation changes, ones which allowed the sub-prime fiasco and corporate irresponsibility which led to the multi-trillion dollar stimulous package, expect this wasn't the first Republican-led attempt or the beginning of this "reverse positioning" strategy designed to create an enviornment to motivate people. Much like the immigration issue, where those who were vocal don't want the brown man in their country, many (most) conservatives and those capitalizing had alterior motivives to these eras of "deficit spending":::::
"Greed is good. Greed works. Now it seems as if it is legal."
Legislation facilitating temptation to those who are in position and the gods have created a trap, much like the tax code and other examples throughout the economy, which will be addressed in these individual's future lives, and addresses the goals the gods have laid out for the peasantry.
These are FINE examples of the steps the gods took to ensure a sufficiently deceptive enviornment as people began to hear telepathically AND understand wisdom in this modern era, albeit at a slow, learning curve rate. For those who would listen I was used to assist people to rapidly increase their understanding of this system. Unfortunate for me, the gods can claim they never intended this, despite being the control freaks who guide everything specifically, and now they are free to fuck my brains out subsequently. Lucky me.
