Remember when Obama said, "If you make less than $250,000 your taxes will not go up! Not one dime!"
I guess the only people that smoke make more than $250K.
If you're a smoker, be prepared to dig deeper for that nicotine fix when April 1 rolls around. April Fools Day! You may have noticed it already because manufacturers have already raised prices to pay for the upcoming new taxes on stored inventory.
You might remember that one of Obama's first acts in office was to expand the SCHIP program which funds health insurance for underprivileged children. The irony of course is that it is funded by smokers. Kill yourself if you want to but by golly you'll pay for somebody's else's health care because of it! In fact, smoke more!
Smokers accustomed to paying about $35 for a carton of cigarettes will be paying closer to $50 when the tax kicks in April 1. Ironically, the increase is making some smokers either cut back or quit altogether, and while good for their health, it's not so good for SCHIP.
But if you make less than $250K, maybe the increase doesn't apply to you.
