Thumbs Down

The New York Times reports on the Glenn Beck rally this morning, suggesting it is "a thumb in the eye" of civil rights leaders that Beck's rally is on the anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech and will be held from the very place that speech was delivered.

Remarkably, the Times does NOT, however, see the Ground Zero Mosque project as a "thumb in the eye" of the families and survivors of 9/11.

Here's a thumbs down to the NYT.

Update:  Here's the live stream of the Beck rally.  LOTS of folks there!

I don't see the problem with MLK. He was trying for freedom for blacks, the Beck rally is trying for freedom for all. Seems to me that blacks are in worse shape than when King spoke.

I might suggest looking at a good trailer to an upcoming documentary. It is on youtube and is by C.L.Bryant of Shreveport. Provides another perspective on the race issue.

I watched the entire rally since I passed up the opportunity to go there myself with friends. Can't wait to see what the media can find to criticize...not one word of controversy and not one sign for them to focus on...my O my..what will they do!!

the fact that NYT does not find the groud zero mosque a thumb in the eye would be more of a reflection of NYT than Glenn Beck's rally.

Glenn Beck's rally could very well be a thumb in the eye and NYT's inability to view the ground zero mosque has no bearing on that.

Your reaction lacks basic logic.

Alveda King spoke at the rally, but NYT probably didn't say a bloody thing about that because she's pro-life. I don't know cause I don't read the Maureen Dowd Rag. But Beck got one other thing done--he's got his name in the news right alongside of MLKs! Pro or con, it's great publicity. Don't tell me he didn't know it was on 8-28. I wonder how many other orgs he beat out for that site for the rally that day? Poor old Al couldn't get it...

I too was wondering. Well, not really. What they did was cloud the issues. Not only are they still sticking their heads in the sand (which by the way doens't displace much sand,by glossing over the fact that the electorate is angry, and they are also, as they did in today's Shreveport Slimes portaying the rally as a black vs white issue. The media is really dispicable.

For sure it was a thumb in the eye of the race hustle industry. That's what they meant right?
